About Me

I'm a Bay Area-based journalist with 10 years of experience covering emerging technologies such as as robotics, artificial intelligence, future food, and biohacking.  I have written for Popular Science, the MIT Technology Review, Wired, Psychology Today, and Entrepreneur among many other publications.

I also have extensive professional experience as a researcher.  With a Ph.D. in English from UCLA and professional training in magazine fact-checking, my research clients have included Sinatra biographer James Kaplan, New York magazine's Vanessa Grigoriadis, Los  Angeles magazine, UCLA Magazine, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Entrepreneur, UCLA Anderson Assets, and others.

In my previous career, I was a producer and writer for the Jazz at Lincoln Center radio program.  I wrote scripts for various hosts including Ed Bradley, Wynton Marsalis, and Wendell Pierce, and I had the pleasure of interviewing greats such as Ron Carter, George Clinton, Branford Marsalis, Miguel Zenon, Renee Rosnes, Joe Zawinul, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Gerald Wilson, Mulgrew Miller, and George Mraz.

I live in Oakland, CA with my wife and our two children, and am a member of The East Bay Dads .
